am Andrea Campian, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and a Certified Functional Manual Therapist. I live in Salt Lake City with my husband, Mike, who is currently a Sports Medicine Fellow at the University of Utah, and our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Tinga and Matobo. I know how passionate athletes are in the Wasatch because I am out there too! Mike, the dogs, and I all run ultra-distance trail races, we also climb, boulder, and scramble in the summer, and ski downhill, backcountry, and do local skimo races in the winter. I know fatigue, injury, aching joints and muscles – but I know rehab, recovery, and how to keep doing the things I love in these mountains. I’m excited to help you do the same – whatever your goals may be.
hroughout the ages people have considered the body in motion a form of art. Recent advances in science, medicine, and technology have shaped our understanding of how the body moves and functions. As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Functional Manual Therapist I combine the science of the human body with the clinical art of tailoring rehab and performance to you as an individual.
Both our bodies and our brains were also designed to adapt. Sometimes these adaptations are not efficient for our athletic goals or even just daily life. Using a combination of Functional Manual Therapy®, neuromuscular re-education, and motor control training I will help you function at the most efficient level for your body, your mind, and your goals. Whether you are currently struggling with an injury, have had one in the past, or would like maintenance or performance work to stay ahead of injuries – I will help you succeed.
A session, or visit, might last 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on what your time, and what the goals of each session are like.
Contact me to schedule sessions for your next adventure. Think of working on your shoulder stability on the crag or the mountain. Imagine getting immediate feedback on your running form on the trail. With on-site adventures we can work on your passion in real time, without having to schedule around the rest of your life.
As an athlete, rehabilitation to get back to everyday tasks is necessary but not sufficient recovery -- you want someone to understand your athletic goals and their physical requirements. After tearing my ACL last year, and subsequent reconstruction surgery, I was extremely motivated to come back as strong and as quickly as possible. Andrea helped channel that energy in the most productive manner. Without her guidance I would have languished in my recovery and ultimately not had the successful ski mountaineering season I have enjoyed less than a year later.
About two years ago I took a bad fall into a tree branch while climbing in American Fork Canyon. I ended up not being able to walk for two weeks due to a deep contusion of my left calf.... That's where Andrea came in. Slowly but surely I worked through the stretches and exercises Andrea created for me and was walking confidently. Before I knew it, I was back climbing. I ended up stronger than I began, and with more psyche for climbing than ever! I decided to move to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky to climb for the season. After the season was over, and I had pushed myself to new limits I did not think were possible, I returned to Utah with very sore shoulders from climbing extensively on overhanging sandstone. I knew Andrea could help me with this, and once again with her guidance I not only recovered from shoulder overuse injury, but I got stronger. This season I was able to send my hardest ever route, Isotoner Moaner in American Fork Canyon, and climb a 22 pitch climb, Squawstruck, in one day. I am in awe of Andrea's knowledge and passion for physical therapy.
Andrea has helped me with anything from long term low back problems to a wrist tendon flare-up to shoulder tightness. The first time I worked with Andrea was in the week leading up to Under-23 World Championships, and after an hour, we worked out a couple of the issues I had been having and I felt great for the races. I trust her opinion and expertise completely, and she has the wonderful ability of making you feel comfortable, listened to, and confident within the first consultation.

A small group class that covers the missing pieces for running and skimo: foam rolling, trigger point release, core strength, hip stability, rate of torque production of the quadriceps. Don’t know what that last one is or why you need to train it? Contact me and we can talk!
We'll work together at Evolve Fitness, Salt Lake City's premier results driven functional training facility. I am the link between injury and training. Evolve Fitness is the link between rehab, and return to performance. It's your one-stop shop for all of your goals!
